Rodney King's Been Shot!

Rodney KingRodney King, famous for a videotaped beating from Los Angeles police back in 1991, was shot and wounded on a San Bernardino street corner late Wednesday.

King called Rialto police just before midnight to report the shooting. According to Sgt. Don Lewis, King was struck in the face and arm -- with what appeared to be pellets or birdshot. When police arrived at King's home, they reported that King and others inside appeared drunk. The man got shot in the face -- he deserves a drink!

King was taken to a local hospital, and his wounds were not believed to be life-threatening.

20. This is from our local paper: San Bernardino Sun. No where does it state he was shot in the face...Get your facts straight!

One of Rialto's most well-known residents, Rodney King, was shot sometime around midnight.
San Bernardino Police Lt. Scott Paterson said the details were still fuzzy but that King may have gunshot pellets in his arm and back area. The wounds are not considered life-threatening.

"Early indications are that it very possibly could have been a domestic dispute," Paterson said.

San Bernardino police are still investigating what exactly happened and where, he said.

Rialto Police Sgt. Tim Lane said police logs showed the incident took place at 5th Street and Meridian Avenue in San Bernardino near the border of Rialto and San Bernardino. Lane said King made it back to his house in the 1100 block of East Jackson Street before calling police.

Rialto police responded but then handed the case over to San Bernardino Police Department when it appeared the shooting took place there.

Paterson said it's not clear if the shooting took place in San Bernardino.

King is at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.

In 1991, he was beaten by police in Los Angeles. Massive riots took place after the four policemen charged with beating him were acquitted.

21. King was awarded $3.8 million in a civil case. He was arrested for spousal assault in 1999. In 2001, he was then ordered to undergo a year of drug treatment after pleading guilty to three counts of being under the influence of phencyclidine and [one] of indecent exposure.

On August 27, 2003, he was arrested again on similar charges as in 1991. It is alleged that King was speeding, ran a red light while under the influence of alcohol and failed to yield to police officers.
